As rates of unmet mental and behavioral health needs continue to rise in the United States, the crisis is intensified by a lack of consensus around what quality care looks like for mental and behavioral health, strained access to mental and behavioral health providers, and inadequate payment and financing structures for mental and behavioral health services. Over Health Evolution’s 2023 Fellowship year, health care executives in our Roundtable on Innovations in Mental and Behavioral Health explored the themes of outcomes, access, and payment to make progress toward increasing accountability in mental and behavioral health.
In a new report titled “Measuring Outcomes in Mental and Behavioral Health: Insights from Health Evolution’s Roundtable on Innovations in Mental and Behavioral Health,” we highlight key learnings from the Roundtable’s work, including insights on:
- Where to start measuring outcomes for mental and behavioral health care;
- Key barriers to measuring outcomes in mental and behavioral health care; and
- Guidelines for measuring outcomes in mental and behavioral health care.

We hope these insights can help stakeholders in the health care ecosystem improve accountability for mental and behavioral health care. We thank all of the participants in Health Evolution’s Roundtable on Innovations in Mental and Behavioral Health for their recommendations and calls for further discussion and action to work through key challenges.
We also extend special thanks to our Innovations in Mental and Behavioral Health Corporate Members for supporting this work:
