Over the course of her career as a leader in healthcare, Sarah Krevans has worked tirelessly toward the goal of providing every patient with safe, affordable and equitable care. Sarah is the current Board Chair for the California Hospital Association, which advocates for better, more accessible health care for all and works to ensure hospitals and health systems throughout the state are best able to provide exceptional care to patients and comprehensive healthcare services to our communities.

In early 2022 Sarah retired as president and CEO of Sutter Health, a Northern California based not-for-profit integrated health system that cares for 3 million patients in one of the most diverse and innovative regions in the country. In this capacity, Sarah led the Sutter network’s $14 billion integrated delivery system of hospitals and outpatient facilities, and the more than 50,000 employees and 14,000 clinicians that encompass the organization’s clinical services, research facilities, home health and hospice care services, and business professionals. Sarah also served as a member of the Sutter Health Board of Directors.

Under her leadership, Sutter Health has been recognized by independent organizations as a national leader in healthcare quality, expanded its use of digital medicine and new technologies, and built creative partnerships with community-based healthcare programs. She also was instrumental in the creation of Sutter’s Institute for Advancing Health Equity (IAHE) and the industry-leading data-driven health equity solutions Sutter Health has developed to improve care for all patients, not only within the Sutter network but in health systems across the country. She remains a member of Sutter’s IAHE External Advisory Committee.

Prior to assuming the president and CEO role in 2016, Sarah served as Sutter Health’s chief operating officer, regional executive officer and president of the Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region, and senior vice president of managed care. She has held executive roles at Kaiser Permanente, served as deputy director of Maine’s Bureau of Medical Services, and was acting director of its Medicaid, health planning and licensure programs.

In addition to her role on the California Hospital Association Board of Directors, Sarah served on the Bay Area Council Executive Committee and co-chaired its committee on addressing homelessness, the American Hospital Association Health Care Systems Council, and the United States of Care Founder’s Council. In 2020, Gov. Gavin Newsom appointed Sarah to his economic recovery task force, where she worked alongside business and other healthcare leaders to develop statewide strategies to address the pandemic’s operational impacts on California’s businesses.

Recognizing her outstanding leadership, Sarah was named one of the “Top 25 Women Leaders” by Modern Healthcare, included on Modern Healthcare’s list of the “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare,” nominated as a “Visionary of the Year” by the San Francisco Chronicle and named one of the “Most Influential Women in Business” by the San Francisco Business Times. Sarah received the TIE Silicon Valley Pandemic Leadership Award in 2021 and in 2020 received the Leadership in Healthcare Award from National Medical Fellowships.
As part of her robust commitment to philanthropic endeavors, she has served as chair of Sierra Forever Families and as chair of the Northeastern California Chapter of Make-A-Wish. She was named 2011 Humanitarian of the Year by the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Sacramento and Northern California, and in 2020 was added to its Humanitarian Wall of Fame.
Sarah earned master’s degrees in business administration and in public health from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree from Boston University.
