Sachin H. Jain, MD, MBA, FACP is President, CEO, and Board Director of SCAN Group and Health Plan, where he is charged with leading the organization’s growth and diversification. Under Dr. Jain’s leadership SCAN has maintained its 4.5 STAR rating; grew its revenues by $2B to >$5B; expanded operations into Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas; launched 4 new clinical subsidiaries focused on primary care (Welcome Health), homeless healthcare (Healthcare In Action), chronic disease management (Homebase Medical) and PACE (MyPlace Health). Dr. Jain is also an adjunct professor of medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine and a regular contributor at Forbes.
Previously, Dr. Jain spent more than a decade years as a senior Fortune 50 executive. He was President and CEO of CareMore and Aspire Health, the care delivery divisions of Anthem, Inc with > $1.6B in revenues serving 200,000 Medicare and Medicaid patients and 2500 associates in 32 states. He directed the diversification of CareMore and the acquisition and integration of Aspire Health. CareMore and Aspire (renamed Carelon Health) now operate multiple innovative models including home-based primary care for frail and vulnerable patients; clinic and home-based models for acute and chronic disease management and prevention; home-based palliative care; and virtual care delivery. At CareMore, he pioneered one of the first scaled clinical programs focused on social isolation and loneliness.
Prior to joining CareMore, Dr. Jain was global Chief Medical Information & Innovation Officer at Merck & Co. He contemporaneously served as an attending physician at the Boston VA-Boston Medical Center and a member of faculties at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Business School. From 2009-2011, Dr. Jain worked in leadership roles at the US Department of Health and Human Services, where he was senior advisor to the administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and special assistant to the national Coordinator for Health Information Technology. Dr. Jain was the first acting deputy director for policy and programs at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI).
Dr. Jain is a respected thought leader in health care delivery. He has been recognized as a “Top 50 Most Influential Clinical Leader” and “100 Most Influential People in US Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare. Dr. Jain has also been recognized by the Boston VA Medical Center for excellence in clinical care provided to the veteran’s community with the “Golden Heart Award” and by Brigham and Women’s Hospital for excellence in mentorship. A noted thought-leader, LinkedIn named him its top voice (#1) for healthcare.
Dr. Jain graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with a BA in government and continued on to earn his MD from Harvard Medical School and MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a member of the boards of Omada Health; Advantage Healthcare Services (Nautic Capital); America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), and the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship Foundation. He previously served on the boards of Make-A-Wish Foundation, Cardiovascular Systems (NASDAQ: CSII), Cue Health (NASDAQ: HLTH) and Abode Hospice. He trained in medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Medicine and Harvard Medical School, earned his board certification from the ABIM, and is a hospitalist physician at the West Los Angeles VA Hospital.
He was co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of the Elsevier journal Healthcare: The Journal of Delivery Science & Innovation and is an elected member of the National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI). He has published over 200 articles in journals such as the New England Journal, JAMA, and the Harvard Business Review blogs and edited the book, The Soul of a Doctor (Algonquin Press). He is an Aspen Institute Health Innovator’s Fellow and a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow.
