Kathleen McGrow

Chief Nursing Information Officer, Microsoft

Dr. Kathleen McGrow is the Global Chief Nursing Information Officer at Microsoft. In this role, she advises organizations on the integration of innovative technologies to enhance clinical performance, improve patient experience, and transform care models. Dr. McGrow specializes in leveraging technology to address digital transformation challenges, including workforce crises, consumer and patient engagement, and cognitive computing for a learning health system.

Dr. McGrow holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and combines extensive clinical experience in trauma critical care with advanced information technology skills. She is an internationally recognized expert in the intersection of clinical care and technology. Dr. McGrow has delivered numerous educational presentations to professional groups, including the International Congress of Nursing in Montreal, Canada.

Her scholarly contributions include publications in peer-reviewed journals on topics such as converting clinical data into actionable insights through artificial intelligence (AI) and the broader implications of AI’s rapid development on healthcare delivery. Her most recent publications, “Foundation Models, Generative AI, and Large Language Models: Essentials for Nursing,” appeared in the May 2024 issue of Computers Informatics Nursing and “Implications of Artificial Intelligence for Nurse Managers appeared in the July 2024 issue of Nursing Management.

Dr. McGrow co-leads the HIMSS Nursing Innovation Advisory Committee and serves as an adjunct clinical instructor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing.
