Health Policy Spotlight – Major Implications of the Inflation Reduction Act (and Beyond) – Ritz-Carlton, Salons 3 & 4
Affordability concerns also remain in the forefront in the public sector. The Inflation Reduction Act’s initial prescription drug pricing provisions went live in January, and the high-profile Medicare drug negotiations begin in 2026. In the meantime, CMMI recently announced three new models for lowering prescription drug costs in Medicare and Medicaid. And at the same time, Medicare Advantage remains in the spotlight, with CMS finalizing rules to claw back past overpayments and proposing changes to the risk-adjustment model moving forward. Which all makes for a timely moment to pull up on the health policy landscape.

The New Medicare Advantage Majority – Where Do We Go from Here? – Ritz-Carlton, Salons 3 & 4
Some twenty years in, Medicare Advantage plans have proven unquestionably popular and profitable, but they are not yet an indisputable source of savings for taxpayers. With MA plans poised to eclipse traditional Medicare in enrollees, questions loom about the right longer-term compact between CMS and “outsourced” private plans. Meanwhile, flashpoints are mounting over annual rate increases, risk adjustment, star ratings, audit rules, and the like. Despite these open questions, leaders across the industry continue to make bold bets on the Medicare Advantage market. But what does the future hold?

The Personalization Paradox – Balancing Data-Powered Innovation with Consumer Privacy – Ritz-Carlton, Salons 3 & 4
Health care is entering a new era of personalization at scale. Cross-industry partnerships and advances in technology are allowing organizations to harness a wealth of data from patients and consumers—but they also must navigate the fine line between personalization versus intrusiveness. How do leaders advance data-powered innovation while meeting intensifying standards for data security in health care and remaining attuned to patients’ and consumers’ evolving attitudes around data privacy? How do organizations enfranchise patients and consumers to ensure trust, agency, and truly person-centered health care?

Medicaid at a Crossroads: Leveraging Lessons of the Past to Redetermine Our Path Forward – Ritz-Carlton, Pacific Promenade Ballroom 1
The Medicaid market is in a state of flux. Up to 18 million Americans could lose their health care coverage as Medicaid redeterminations begin in April, threatening access to care for our most vulnerable populations and placing further strain on health care organizations. Yet at the same time, CMS has been creating flexibilities for more robust benefits in the Medicaid program, especially to address drivers of health. How can leaders successfully navigate these changes to balance the tension between coverage losses for some while seizing the opportunity to provide needed benefits to others? And how can leaders across the industry come together to leverage past learnings and innovate on solutions to ensure a less volatile path forward?

The Digital Mental Health Boom: Can New Solutions Improve Access and Ensure Quality? – Ritz-Carlton, Pacific Promenade Ballroom 3
An array of innovators are designing new models of digital and virtual care for mental health during a time of strain on the health care ecosystem. While there is excitement about the promise of these new solutions, questions also remain about long-term sustainability, especially as health plans, employers, and investors are now paying much closer attention to the impact on access and quality. How are innovators ensuring and evaluating the impact of these new digital and virtual models of care for mental health? And what is the role of incumbent health care organizations in this digital mental health boom?

Realizing the Promise of Data Liberation – Ritz-Carlton, Pacific Promenade 2
Hosted by WellSky
October 6, 2022, or “Data Liberation” Day, marks a turning point in information blocking: health care organizations are now required to provide patients with full access to their data in a digital format upon request. This revolutionary milestone brings patients closer to their care with the hope of improving transparency, strengthening relationships with providers, and helping patients better understand their care. During this discussion, health care leaders and experts will share perspectives on realizing the promise of this data liberation and what it means to all stakeholders within the health care ecosystem thinking around how patients and providers can come together to collaborate on care, and as well as what this means for payers in supporting their members.

Advancing Health Equity through the Combined Powers of Retail, Pharmacy, Home, and Primary Care – Ritz-Carlton, Pacific Promenade 3
Hosted by Walgreens Boots Alliance
As care delivery evolves to become less fragmented and more personalized, health equity cannot be left behind; addressing and solving for it at every step of the health care journey is required. The ability to do this effectively relies on more than just technology or occasional doctor visits. Health care is inherently local, and delivering care within the community domain opens up endless opportunities to combat access challenges, advance health equity, unlock the ability to deliver the proper care at the right time, and keep patients engaged.

Raising Capital and Spending Money in the New Normal – Ritz-Carlton, Pacific Promenade 1
Hosted by SVB Securities
The whipsaw in the financing environment in 2022 has led innovative companies to re-think the path of growth. In this environment, companies are being more prudent with managing expenses and capital expenditures. Our industry leaders will discuss how they are adapting to the New Normal.

The Future of Home-Based Care: An Integrated, Whole-Person Approach – Ritz-Carlton, Pacific Promenade 2
Hosted by Ziegler
As we are now over ten years since the introduction of the Affordable Cares Act increasing access to managed care and having experienced the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, has the U.S. Healthcare System improved opportunities to receive “whole-person” care and have payors/providers been encouraged through payment means or otherwise to efficiently drive such solutions.
Whole Person Health is an approach that considers the entirety of an individual’s physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Rather than treating each symptom or condition as an isolation, this approach emphasizes the interconnectedness of various aspects of an individual’s health and seeks to address them in a holistic manner. The goal is to achieve better care coordination, well-being, and health outcomes, all while incorporating the patient’s preferences and choices.
This panel will discuss the state of our current healthcare ecosystem where things are working or failing along the path to deliver cost-effective, organized approaches to managing the needs of individuals in the home environment. Topics around social determinants of health, the fragmented nature of “post-acute” care, definition of an integrated delivery system and payment/reimbursement models will be put on the table.

Who Will be the First Trillion Dollar Health Care Company? – Ritz-Carlton, Pacific Promenade 3
Hosted by League
In late 2022, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) made a bold prediction: a consumer health technology company will one day be the largest organization in the world. With health care’s nearly infinite surface area, two distinct paths exist to enable such astronomical growth – a vertically integrated payvider with a highly-engaged population or a horizontal infrastructure marketplace. As health care consolidation continues and a small number of organizations become increasingly powerful, the overarching question is how would such a large company impact the rest of the industry?

What Drives Disparities in Maternal Care? – Ritz-Carlton, Pavilions 1 & 2
Hosted by Carrot Fertility
Poor maternal health outcomes are on the rise, and disparities continue to worsen. Health plans and employers increasingly recognize the need to address this challenge through comprehensive benefits and improved access to care. Equitable fertility and family-forming benefits such as affordable and diverse fertility health options are critical to ensuring high-quality healthcare and improved outcomes for women and birthing people. While we’ve made progress toward increasing access to fertility and family-forming benefits, this essential healthcare is still out of reach for many – and the solution is not one-size-fits-all. Join industry leaders from health plans and employer organizations in an interactive discussion about what we can do differently to eliminate maternal disparities and improve outcomes.

The Trouble With Trust: How Can Consumers Trust Us If We Don’t Trust Them? – Ritz-Carlton, Pavilions 4 & 5
Hosted by Oliver Wyman
Trust underpins everything in health care. Addressing chronic disease requires behavior change, which requires trust. Treating mental health challenges requires therapeutic alliance, which requires trust. Taking medication requires a willingness to ingest chemicals you can’t even pronounce, which requires trust. And, yet, we’ve built a system that questions people at every turn and erodes consumer trust. We use words like “non-compliant” to describe the people we serve. We make them fight to receive care. And, for the past three years, we confused and frustrated them with our public health response. Where do we go from here?

Value for Whom: How Do We Center Patients in Value-Based Care?
Ritz-Carlton, Pacific Promenade Ballroom 1
Despite recent slowdowns during the COVID era, U.S. health care spending is projected to reach nearly 20% of Gross Domestic Product by the end of the decade—without better outcomes to show for it. Many patients continue to struggle with accessing affordable, quality health care. Value-based care has long been touted as the solution. As health care leaders continue to reshape how care is paid for and provided, how can cross-industry leaders demonstrate the meaning and impact of value-based care to patients? How do we construct and explain a model that ensures quality care is accessible and affordable for patients?

Advancing Research and Equity: Demystifying, Diversifying & Decentralizing Clinical Trials – Ritz-Carlton, Pacific Promenade Ballroom 3
Clinical trials have become the next frontier for advancing health equity. New cross-sector opportunities are emerging to more quickly diversify and decentralize clinical trials, especially as life sciences organizations, health plans, and health systems—plus newer players including retail and community-based organizations—collaborate more closely. But how do these strategies intersect and diverge? And more importantly, how do cross-industry leaders maximize opportunities for engaging and benefitting underserved communities in clinical trial participation, recognizing the legacy of discrimination and mistrust?
